Union Proud !! Anniversary T-Shirts are here !!
Indeed, we are Union Proud ! TWU Local 505 is celebrating 75 years of serving Members in the airline industry.
Local 505 is one of many locals affiliated with the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL – CIO. The TWU was founded in 1934 by Michael J. Quill when he organized transit workers in New York City. Quill negotiated contracts covering 38,000 workers within 9 months ! The TWU now includes more than 150,000 Members across the country in all areas of transportation.
Local 505 was chartered in 1946 by the Pan Am Mechanics upon whose shoulders we all stand.
Local 505 not only represented Pan Am Mechanics but also Pan Am Flight Attendants. Over the years 505 Members also included American Flight Attendants, American Aircraft Mechanics, and still includes American Airlines Facilities and Automotive Mechanics, and Fleet Service.
TWU Local 505 had Members that were employed by Horizon Air, Sun Country, Air Cal, and SFO Helicopter Pilots. We have a rich history in the airline industry with covered Members working under multiple Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Jim Horst was the first elected President of Local 505 serving from 1946 to 1952. We have had 16 Presidents over our history including Mike Mayes who served 3 terms and now serves as an Administrative Vice President for the TWU International. Mike came to the 505 from the Fleet Service ranks working for Air Cal since 1984. Current President Jennifer Platt, hired by American Airlines 1986, is on her second term and is a Fleet Service Crew Chief.
TWU Local 505 proudly represents you and works diligently to protect your rights and those of all working men and women.
We are Union Proud in PDX, RNO, SEA, SFO, SJC, SLC, and SMF
