Attention All TWU Local 505 California Members;
Beginning Monday September 14, 2026, all California members will be required to badge out and back in for ½ hour unpaid lunch break.
This change is a result of settlement agreement stemming from a lawsuit that American did not give lunch breaks and/or miscoded lunches and did not pay for missed lunches. Part of the settlement is that American must have proof and maintain records that employees are getting their ½ hour unpaid lunch break per Contract and State Law. Thus, we will have to badge out and badge in for lunch.
Please read attached here for more information from the Company (SFO AND SJC - still waiting on SMF). We anticipate hiccups with this rollout, so please be patient while this implementation starts. Best advice is to communicate – reach out to Management if you have questions or issues with this new procedure. Shop Stewards and Union Officers can help answer questions.
At this point, this is what we know – there will be a 3 minute “grace period” when badging back in from lunch, this should cover any waiting to use the timeclock; a late badge back in from lunch will drive your pay being docked the amount of time the badge was late (shift will not be adjusted); failing to badge out or in from lunch will be considered a performance issue and could drive a visit to the office and possible discipline.
Do your best to comply with this new procedure – it’ll take a bit of time for us all to adjust. If you have problems – speak up, let someone in Management know what the issue is to minimize any action for non-compliance.
