Let’s keep work safe for everyone
Sometimes, emotions get the best of us when we are upset or angry and defensive gestures and language come out. That’s a good time to step back, take a breath, and don’t engage. Sounds simple but can be difficult – give it a try if you feel you might respond inappropriately to a situation.
Other times we are joking, talking, or doing TicTok, Instagram, YouTube on speaker……keep in mind others may passively hear your remarks or content and find it offensive. Be mindful that not everyone has the same view of what’s acceptable. It's best to be neutral and keep it professional at work.
American Airlines takes these matters seriously and will act when reported. American, though the Ethics Helpline, will follow up on reported Workplace Environment Policy violations, usually with an investigation and discipline up to and including termination. Sometimes this also includes withhold from service.
The Union also takes these matters seriously. Reaching out to a Shop Steward if you are in any way involved with inappropriate language, threats, or physical violence. The Steward can walk you through the steps necessary to resolve these issues (all discussions with Union Representatives are confidential).
